Description

While generative artificial intelligence (AI) brings many benefits, it has also raised concerns about its ability to exacerbate the generation and dissemination of false and misleading information. This indicator measures the ability of adults to identify online disinformation created by generative AI. Disinformation is defined as verifiably false or misleading information that is knowingly and intentionally created and shared for economic gain or to deliberately deceive, manipulate or inflict harm on a person, social group, organisation or country. Fake news, deepfakes and hoaxes are forms of disinformation. Ability is measured based on scores from the OECD Truth Quest survey (see notes).
