Description

Digital technologies hold promise for better environmental management and protection, but they also put pressures on environmental sustainability. This indicator measures e-waste generated in a given year per inhabitant and the amount of e-waste that has been collected and recycled (not all e-waste that is collected is necessarily recycled). Unmanaged e-waste is the difference between e-waste generated and e-waste that has been collected and recycled. E-waste refers to all items of electrical and electronic equipment that have been discarded as waste without the intent of re-use. It provides an indication of the environmental impacts of information and communications technology (ICT) on production and consumption.
